HBA Global Expo 2002

The 10th annual showing promises to fascinate and inform with more exhibitors, awards events and seminars.

The 10th Annual HBA Global Expo, Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Oct. 14-16, promises to be the biggest so far. Show director, Jack Gonzalez said, “We’re headed for a record year. We have registered approximately 110,000 net square feet for about 1,080 exhibit booths representing 515 exhibiting companies.”

In 1993, there were 265 booths and over 26,500 net square feet for 180 exhibiting companies, according to Gonzalez. “We’ve grown more than four-fold,” he stressed. The total of attendees, a combination of exhibitor personnel and visitors, has increased from about 6,000 in 1993 to about 17,000 in 2001.

Considering the amount of consolidation in the industry combined with budgetary constraints on travel costs, Gonzalez acknowledged that attendance may not grow this year by the customary double-digit increases of the past. “But we are ahead of 2001 for conference registration and attendance registration is even with last year’s,” he said.

There is also more international participation than ever with over 30 percentof the exhibiting companies being multi-nationals. Gonzalez noted, “More than 10 percent of the attendees are from abroad with the greatest representation being from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America. Participation from the Asia is also increasing.”

This year’s HBA has given visitors a great incentive to show up bright and early opening day, Oct. 14, by scheduling a keynote address by Leonard Lauder, chairman of Estée Lauder Companies Inc.

Lauder’s address, to be given from 9:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. in the Special Events hall, is titled “A View from the Top: The Next Five Years,” and promises to offer keen insight on the state of the cosmetic and personal care industry. Lauder’s unique perspective as chairman of the leading cosmetics, fine fragrance and skin care marketer corporation in the United States.

It’s free to all registered attendees and exhibitors, but arrive early as seating is limited.
